    Bill Oddie RIP

I used to live close to the Welsh Harp reservoir in NW London. You’d quite often see Bill Oddie over there watching the waterfowl and migrating birds. I think Kate Humble’s description of him as “irascible” is probably right as he was generally very grumpy, assuming he even acknowledged you in...

Barclaycard fraudulent phone call this morning

Mine too. I’m pretty sure you can choose whatever type of card you like for payment purposes.

    New Alzheimers Drug

Some are, but there are decent ones as well, and it’s not just down to what they charge. My mum went into a home a couple of years back : it was a fairly new purpose built home with good facilities and she was treated extremely well.

Fed up with Wet Shaving so......

Half an hour for a wet shave? Blimey! I would guess he’s doing the complete ritual with a badger brush, proper shaving soap and a cut throat razor? I cant be bothered with all that nonsense .. a couple of minutes with a tin of shaving gel and a Harry’s razor does me just fine.

    WAMT....what annoyed me today!

Every insurance company seems to do that, they just hope you can’t be bothered to look around and swallow it. Our car insurance was up for renewal recently and had a fairly large increase over last year. I put the details into one of the comparison sites and got lots of cheaper quotes, so I...

Anyone know what these strange calls to my landline are?

Yup it’s completely switched round, mobiles are the cheapest option for calls now. We have family in the US and use WhatsApp to message and do video chats, all at no cost. My ancient mum always refused to give up her landline and got enormous bills every quarter because she’d use it to ring...

Anyone know what these strange calls to my landline are?

Often you can just put the number into google or duck duck go and it’ll come up with suggestions. From there it’s usually easy to figure out whether it’s a spam call. We’ve still got a landline. Although it’s never used by us for calling out, sometimes an old and very technophobic neighbour...

3am wake up with this thunder and lightning... Spectacular

Lucky you! Nothing here in the South East, it’d be great to have at least some relief to the heat. I do love watching a thunderstorm at night .

Is there a shortage of hedgehogs?

Part of the problem was slug bait being so toxic, which had a knock on effect on hedgehogs. Now the nastier bait has been banned that might help a bit. Must admit I have never once seen a hedgehog where we live, despite us being in a country village, with our house backing onto open farmland...

    Funeral Music

I’m not a big fan of using rock or pop songs at a funeral, especially the jokey titled stuff like Highway to Hell etc. I get the sentiment of why people do it, but some songs can seem a bit crass and inappropriate. I went to a family funeral last week where the entry music to the crem service...

Travelling to Vietnam alone - organised tour or DIY ?

To give an alternative to woof woof’s comments. We were in Thailand in November/December of last year. Four days in Bangkok followed by flying down to Phuket for a couple of weeks. We didn’t have any problems, the locals were friendly and welcoming, both the hotels we used were pretty much full...

    WAMT....what annoyed me today!

Sod’s Law isn’t it? There’s been a fundraising event for our local church planned for months. It was an outdoor event held at a really lovely medieval house in our village … actually I think most people wanted to go just to have a nose around the owner’s gardens :D Weather has been beautiful for...

The Cost of a Funeral in 1995

My mum had a simple no frills cremation last year. Not much change out of £6k.

    Best shows on Prime/Netflix?

He was in Scarpetta recently on Prime, playing Nicole Kidman’s husband. I hadn’t realised he’s actually Australian.
