I have the 150-600mm Tamron and it's very nice indeed, I like it a lot. I rented the equivalent Sigma for the afternoon and looked at them side by side and didn't find any difference. Some sample images - all birds in this case :)

I like the Brenizer method but always struggle with perspective distortion of lines surrounding the subject! Maybe it's just my OCD kicking in :) But the paved floor looks pretty good here, you've handled it well.

Can you confirm specifically what version it is you're using? When you say view the RAW files do you mean "view in DPP" or "view the RAW files as images in windows explorer"?

Look at the Canon 760D, you can get it with kit lenses or forego the kit lens and get a long focal length superzoom perhaps. I'd recommend Lightroom, via the Adobe photography deal described above. While there are other options available, the fact so many others are using it means support, help, & tutorials are much more common.
