Beginner Are prime lenses all they're cracked up to be?

Yes snekler, primes do have their place, however the more I think about it, the more I feel its the 'butch' side of some togs coming out . . . 'I have a shop full of prime lenses in my bag, I can get the sharpest picture' . . . . . . hohum, I simply want to take a few pictures whilst out, 'a...

    Beginner Hoya filter or not

Useful advise, modern cameras have it all on board, almost . . . I like the coment about 'turning nicley babling water into a milky mush', and I though it was just me . . . I'm looking forward to using my new '4k picture grab' to get some interesting stop motion shots. One has found it difficult...

Beginner Are prime lenses all they're cracked up to be?

Some good advise here, I have been wondering like the author do I need a prime lens, is a lot of 'I use primes' a bit of snobery, one up man ship . . . I'm going to stick with my Micro 4/3, 12-35 f2.8 for the time being. thanks for all the coments. CJS

    Beginner Micro 4/3 Bunkum . . . ?

Whoops . . . sorry peoples, I dont have any issues with bokeh one way or the other. I was simply pointing out the x2 factor has a wider reach than I had realised in my inocent inability. I supose its something I want to have a look at? I often used primes in my previous life with Nikon full...

    Beginner Micro 4/3 Bunkum . . . ?

. . . well something like that, what I mean is 'out of focus back ground' . . . ? I'm not what you would call a beginner but do suffer from memory loss and association, so I'm always at the bottom of the heap, but what the hell, I enjoy the climb back. Like now, not held a proper camera for a...

Hi Swanseamale47, thats a heads up, thankyou, whilst I get my self back into things with the camera I can shoot jpeg. New, to 'new technology'?

OK, not a beginner but one has problems with memory, therefor I get a bit nervouse with new stuff. I have not updated any of my post processing soft ware or used it for a long while now, curently on 'Photoshop 8'. Equaly, I have not taken any serious pictures for this period, I'm very stale...

Upgrading my Nikon D90? New walk-a-bout lens? Go Mirror-less? Go Canon? (Argh.....)

Mmm, I should have looked a little closer . . . However, I've been there, size/weight/lenses etc. I suspect a sideways move for ERU? In my retirement, I have learned lessons in my verious interest, they all ad up to the same thing . . . 'keep it simple'. then get the best out of what you have...

Upgrading my Nikon D90? New walk-a-bout lens? Go Mirror-less? Go Canon? (Argh.....)

I went the same rout a while back, D90 lenses, large kit bag . . . simply to much especialy as one finds that aproaching retirement, it all sounded like a good idea, but when you get there things are not so rose. I bought a Lumix G1, loved it, made the mistake of upgrading and selling the G1...

An Old'un feeling a bit nervous?

Its a movable issue I supose, however, I cant do some of what I used to, when I get down, getting up is a problem, dodgy knees and feet, hands are weak and can shake a bit, that will test the GX8. Compared with my Hazel who cant go out unless it is in her wheel chair, I supose I'm not so bad...
