From my side, today's problems could be due to Backblaze throttling. But Backblaze was not running yesterday. FWIW, I am seeing similar problems on other XenForo sites. Good luck with the debugging.

Back in the day, I used one drop of kitchen detergent in 250-500ml distilled water. I also remember trying adding propylene glycol or peg. They improved non.adhesion of the film but slowed drying.
FWIW, avoid sunblock and insect repellent on your hands. I destroyed a rubber grip and the top LCD on a Nikon with insect repellent. It makes the rubber positively gungy, far worse than just 'icky!
I'm not sure Vuescan will help. It provides universal scanners for older devices for modern OS. I think the OP wants the opposite - drivers for a modern device but using an older OS. I don't remember Vuescan being able to do that, but to be fair I don't think I ever tried.
