I'd suggest that you add "privacy" to your list of concerns. Personally, I don’t want all my photographs (or any of my other data) being stored on somebody else’s computers, when you have no idea who (employees, hackers, governments, etc) will be able to access it.

I AM THE TALK PHOTOGRAPHY FORUM.....

At a London party in 1883, Oscar Wilde was complimenting one of the guests on a singularly pithy and well-turned remark. "How I wish I'd said that!" the great Irish wit exclaimed. To which the painter James MacNeil Whistler was heard to murmur, "You will, Oscar, you will."

Notice Some big changes coming to TP

Another low-post but frequent-read user here, saying Thank You. It's easy to forget how much time and effort is involved in running a forum. I'm old enough to remember when Usenet was the only arena where people could discuss areas of common interest on the internet. Then people moved to...

    WBMT.....What baffled me today

I had the exact same thing with DPD, although not from Amazon. Got an email on Friday 2nd saying that they would deliver my parcel on Saturday 3rd, but tracking showed that they hadn't even received the item yet. It was delivered today (Tuesday 6th).

    WBMT.....What baffled me today

Hmm - I'm not sure that I like the idea of a watch that listens to everything that I say and reports it back to Apple (or Google, or Amazon).

I'm not a fan of the cloud - apart from the bandwidth required to move all your data there (I've just under 5Tb currently), there's the risk that the cloud provider will lose/corrupt it. More worryingly, unless it's encrypted, there are all the (for me, show-stopping) privacy issues around...

    eBay selling changes coming.

A concern which is not based on any evidence, rationale or logic. I've no problem with you wearing your tinfoil hat in private, but when you start parading your ignorance on a public forum then you should expect to get called out for it.

    eBay selling changes coming.

The Press Gazette article contained mis-information, especially in regard to what can be done with bank account details - go and read about the Direct Debit Guarantee. It's also not exactly the most reputable of magazines (there's a reason why it had a circulation of well under 3,000), and is...

The newspaper link that you posted earlier in the thread, which was completely irrelevant to the point at hand.

    eBay selling changes coming.

Sort code 07-01-16 Account 12939394 There you go - feel free to pay as much as you wish into it! You're perfectly at liberty to not want to give your details to anybody else - but do be aware that your choice is not supported by any logic, rationale, or risk reduction. And please don't keep...

    eBay selling changes coming.

Sigh - not that old canard yet again. Jeremy Clarkson was - incorrectly - set up to pay a Direct Debit to a charity. Because of the way the DD scheme works, (1) it is only available to legitimate organisations, as very stringent checks are done as to who can receive DDs, and (2) Clarkson could...

    eBay selling changes coming.

The only thing that somebody can do with your bank details is pay money IN to your account. Every cheque ever written has your account number and sort code - and your signature - on it. I believe that eBay will provide a code which the buyer and seller will both enter into the app at the time...

    Missing instructions GX80

My understanding is that the regulations cover flying leads as well. Obviously you can swap one out for a flying lead with a UK plug on it, provided that (1) it is of appropriate capacity, (2) you are comfortable doing so, and (3) you really, really want the item and don't want to have to send...

    Missing instructions GX80

This is illegal under the Plugs and Sockets etc. (Safety) Regulations 1994. All electrical items sold in the UK (apart from toothbrushes and shavers) must be fitted with a UK 3-pin plug or an adapter which cannot be removed without the use of a tool.
