Meaning What You See Is What You Get (sorry I don't want to appear condescending but I thought it would be useful to clarify)
This is yet another benefit over the DSLR as the optical viewfinders DSLR have do not cover 100% the area you photograph.
Faced a similar situation and used a very small amount of Autoglym Vinyl and Rubber Care and rubbed that in with a piece of cotton cloth. It worked well and the effect lasts. It doesn't leave a silicone polish type of feeling which I was very happy about.

Reading this thread on my phone whilst in the kitchen so just snapped one photo of the soon to be discarded roses. It's all about the light at the of the day....
