manual focus yes, but thats probably the best for portraits, atleast for me :)

the d3300 is a great place to start, I have a 1 metre x 1.5 metre canvas up on my wall of my little ones 1st birthday. It looks flawless even if you put your nose to the canvas! Great , easy to use and very light

ofcourse if you are doing macros then the 105 is better, the zeiss is the better portrait lens

get the Zeiss, the colours and contrast you can get from them is insane. The 135mm F2 is one of the holy grail portrait lenses :)
