I've had this happen with a small radio receiver, a DAT recorder and a Minolta Dynax 7. In all cases I was able to remove the coating with cotton buds and methylated spirit. It is a laborious process taking hours to complete but very satisfying to be able to use the item again.
ID11 seems to be available from Ilford. I, however, mix my own from the raw chemicals. I have plenty on the shelf although I am wondering where to obtain fresh supplies now that Silverprint is no more.
