No idea about the filters but I can't imagine there is any real substitute for a proper dark sky, anything must be voodoo if it actually worked. Also posting because I want to know and Dunnottar is one of my favourite castles! Not sure if this helps from a light pollution standpoint...

Wasn't sure where the best place to post but I just walked past the CEX in Hatfield Galleria and spotted 2x 12-40 Oly for £400 each and a D700 for £420. Didn't look too closely or ask anything but they look in good condition. Figure might be interesting for someone :-).
