Canon 1200D

Hello, I have just purchased a new Canon 1200D. I am not an expert in photography so I am hoping someone can help me here. When I try and take a close up photo (or any photo) the lens seems to adjust itself an awful lot and take quite a few seconds in doing so which doesn't seem normal. Also...
