    Lastolite Hilite lighting set up

Just another voice on Elemental. As they're local to me I've picked up in person whenever I've dealt with them and they certainly weren't short of stock. No problems with the gear either, they've worked well for me so far.

    Lencarta Smartflash vs Elemental Genesis

Just FWIW.... I've not shot with different models of lights, just an amateur experimenting, but I have and am pleased with Elemental's lights, having chosen between them and Lencarta's lights. Liked them enough that I went back to Elemental to get some more kit recently, in fact. Not having had...

    Canvas printing recommendations

Hi all :-) I've had someone request a canvas print of a group portrait I did for them recently, but I've never got one done myself so just wondering who people here have used and can recommend (other than our fine advertisers who I'm sure are lovely but I'd like more info than just those who...

    Silverstone 2010/Event photography

Silverstone is awkward though because the greater distances mean yo'ure just very tight on space to get decent shots - it's my local track but there are very few places I've found for getting nice stuff without shooting through a fence, which is pretty much an instant no-no for publication...

    smartflash vs Genesis

I wondered the same thing here recently :-) Yes, Elemental quote in metres, Lencarta in feet. FWIW I looked at both companies' ranges and ended up with Elemental M series gear. Not an expert and it's not had proper use yet but I like it.

    Studio Lighting Kit thoughts

OK, latest update - I got the Elemental M series 300ws twin head kit. Only had a basic play so far but all seems very nice, well equipped and sturdy.

Hot plastic melts. Hot aluminium is what heat sinks inside computers are - it's a good conductor and radiator of heat. I can deal with a gun that's hot to the touch rather better than one that's soft to the touch! Anyway, looking like the M series guns at present, which are cooled anyway.

The right lens for plant photography

I have the Sigma 105mm macro. Lovely lens, _very_ sharp and contrasty, handles well. Cost me about £150 as new on eBay. Highly recommended.

    Studio Lighting Kit thoughts

Just to throw another into the mix, also looking at Elementals M series 300w heads. Seem to offer a lot over the Genesis - faster recycling, fan cooling (albeit Genesis being an aluminium shell it's less issue than with Elinchrom D-Lites) for very little downside. Look like some nice heads.

    Posing a HUGE group.....

16 people, 2.4m per side. In a straight square formation that wouldn't be very attractive, that's 60cm square each. Too small - hire the community centre IMHO.

Thanks Alan - that's then about the same price as the Elementaland Lencarta kits though, but without triggers or a reflector?

    D300 v's Fuji S5 Pro

Obviously it depends on the sport, but I shoot a lot of motor sports, rowing, occasional cricket - all on a d80 which is 3fps. It's the timing as much as anything. I'd agree with the poster who said rach and timing are the key things to work on - I'm sure the D300 would have nice features over...

    What set of F'guns ?

Respectfully, I've done it. I'm working on the assumption that a percentage of the background will need final clearing in software, but not much, and with that I've done individuals comfortably and 3-4 person groups if I could put 2m (ish) between subjects and background. Minimal or no bleaching...

    What set of F'guns ?

I know that's the standard advice, but... I've regularly managed an 80-90% blown white coverage from a single gun to the side when doing single person portraits onto a white background, with a bit of opening up - ISO 400 @ f/8 (half power I think for recycling time reasons) on the EXIF for...

    Studio Lighting Kit thoughts

Thanks - should've thought of m/ft... :bonk: Numbers add up then :-) I'm sure I'd notice the difference between a 100w and a 1000w head but I'm not at all stressed about a 1/3 stop difference. Otherwise, from what I've seen the units are pretty similar so just wondering if anyone knows...
