    Another mic question ...

Could do, but I'd rather not be carrying both cameras, I'm going to try recording some ambient on the M6 and see if the built in mic is 'enough'. I worry that the Rode will be too directional, but I have zero actual experience of using external mics :)

    Another mic question ...

All I want is to be able to record from anywhere in the audience (I'm just using a regular ticket), and get sound no worse than the Handycam (which always impresses me).

    Street Photography: Nailing it.

No you won't. Lenses don't make you stand out, camera bodies don't make you stand out, hats, clothing, hair, none of it makes you stand out. Feeling out of place, being furtive, hiding, that makes you stand out. I saw a guy with a short focal length lens on a small camera body standing behind...

    Thanks both.

    Another mic question ...

I've been videoing a choir, from where-ever I am in the audience, for a few years. I've used a Sony Handycam, and despite the apparently low spec I've always been impressed by the results. The choir often performs in churches, cathedrals, or other specialised music venues. I've been thinking...

Filming a band playing cover versions Copyright Question?

You see this when it's 'okay' and I've got one that had this (which means it's blocked unless I remove the audio) The important bit both times is that YouTube clearly states 'this is not a copyright strike', i.e. doesn't count against your account.

Filming a band playing cover versions Copyright Question?

I post videos of a choir, and 30-40% of them are flagged as copyright material, and then monetised. You don't get any problems on your account. I don't really understand the actual legal position, there's a lot of complexity around music venue licensing, arrangements, paying for the original...

Yep, I agree with that. I think there's a line of thinking as well though, that if you don't enjoy using a piece of equipment or if it gets in the way of enjoying the photography it might not be the right choice. I have an EOS M6 with the add on viewfinder, and for some reason, I feel self...

I don't think that's different from others, certainly, the best street photography says something and is pleasing to look at. My point earlier was that the only true requirement for a photograph to be street is for it (in my view) to contain a human element in a non-natural setting. As one...

    Street photography composition and cropping.

The important part to remember is that there's no such thing as the right way to do street photography, there's just your way. If you capture a scene of humanity in a non-natural setting, you've got a street photograph. Everything else is ascetics. Focal length, subject isolation, colour...

Depends what you mean (assuming you're responding to my post). It's only a given for people who know it's true, many people forget or don't think about it, and it's easy to fall in to the trap of thinking the masters take those shots all in a short space of time. Some people forget it took 40...

Film street photography, pros and cons

I've been approached three times. Once (most recently), a shopping centre 'security guard' told me to stop taking pictures *outside* of the shopping centre at the boarded up building he was guarding, because he felt I was taking pictures of the locations of the CCTV cameras. I told him quite...

It's important to remember that we see a very small number of photographs (relatively) from the 'masters' but hundreds or thousands of our own. I'm not saying I have any masters in my collection, but I'm sure even Fan Ho had some stinkers too.

I suggest then you're enjoying the emotional attachment to the subjects of those images, and you'll never have that with street photographs if the scene at the time didn't evoke an emotion. There's no emotional engagement for me in the subject of this shot. Red Black Red Black by Tony Evans...
