I haven't done a head to head on the 85mm 1.8 vs 1.4 but the 1.4 is very good for people.
28-105 is nice to if you are after something light and cheap. So is the 28-70 f/3.3 to something kit lens from the film era.
Quite a lot of the D lenses are just the AF lenses with extra electronics for...
Some of the AF-D lenses are great. They are not as corrected and sharp as the AF-S ones. Good choices are the 35mm f/2, 50mm f/1.4 and 85mm f/1.4. For landscapes the AF-S lenses might be better.
Nighthawks dance festival. This was a Collegiate Shag performance but they put in a bit of Charleston like this aerial. I deleted some of the wires around the follow's head on NXStudio. There was lots of light so it is much sharper than most of my dance pictures.
Nikon D6 and Tamron 35mm f/1.4
It looks like there is a spring loaded pin that has clipped into the locking position in the back of the lens. There doesn't look like any way of undoing the pin, which would normally be a button on the camera. The place below the slot where the pin is looks like it has a peened over cover. If...
Might be interesting to make multiple versions in black and white with different degrees of turn around the centre to create some rotary ICM effect. It would be like looking into a black hole.
But that is inefficient. The competition is on a World level and companies which are not heavily taxed will get the business. Productivity through the now out of work people has to increase so they are no longer a burden. Or, to put it another way, any dreams of machines working while they pay...
Could do a D90 and a 18-70 AF-S DX lens (or a Tamron/Sigma 27-50 f/2.8 if you want something better). The D90 is similar to a D300 where it matters but a bit smaller. SB600 flash because they are cheap.
I think a less capable camera could be better for gaining understanding on how things work...
I've compared my (inexpensive)phone to the output of an early DSLR (D40) and the DSLR was a lot better.
I'd suggest a Nikon D90 with a 18-70 zoom lens. Plus an external flash like a SB-600 and a tripod.
That is 15-20 year old kit but it is cheap and no one will be able to tell the difference...
I think the latest glass has benefitted from some huge technological improvements:
Computer modelling allows more complex designs. No more reams of calculations for lens designers.
Continuous production produces cheaper and more consistent glass stock.
Modern coatings allow large amounts of...
Nikon D5 picture of the dart side of the Earth by Artemis crew. The D5 is a fantastic low light and sports camera.

Best picture from Friday night.
Jenny and Benjy doing an improvised show (lindy hop). Lighting was a bit interesting- backlit by bright lights coming through the door, red spot light as an up-lighter to the right, fairy lights behind me on the ceiling and blue/red spot lights on a stage a long...
