This happens when you have your card saving setup as raw/jpeg. The raw files save to slot 1 and that is what is previewed by default. When in playback go to the menu and select card slot 2 and you’ll see JPEG previews instead with your 1:1 crop applied.

    Beginner Nikon Lens

Worth just mentioning here. You can use any Nikon F-mount lens. Doesn't have to be DX. Focal length of the lens itself doesn't change. So an 18mm DX lens is a an 18mm lens just as an 18mm FX lens would be. The advantage of using a DX specific lens is that it will generally be smaller...

It’s 1.5 to 1.6 ish depending on camera. 1.5 is generally used as it makes the maths much easier but the d3100 crop factor is 1.56. So 18mm is 27mm or 28mm depending on which you use. 1.5 is close enough and makes life easier.

Pedantic I know but it's more like 27/28mm which is quite big difference at wider angles.

Recommended magnetic filter holder and filters for various lenses

Another Kase user here. Really like it. Bought my kit used which cushioned the blow a little. I just went for the filter thread of my largest lens and then adaptors for the others, so 82mm in your case. I got a few extra covers too so that if I'm going out with landscape photography in mind...

Reading between the lines a bit here but it sounds like you may want wider than 24mm. 24mm is a wide angle lens on a full frame/35mm film camera but not particularly wide on an APSC DSLR like yours. To get equivalent, you'll want about 16mm. A couple of options that immediately spring to mind...

Viktrox do seem to have turned out a fair few Poundland rolls Royces so far though…

Like those @LeeRatters . They suit the colour treatment really well.

Indeed, though a used Viltrox is going to be even less again. Though I agree the Fuji 90mm is a wonderful lens, had one a few years ago for a while. AF is as good as it gets too. But I've also been blown away by Viltrox's primes so I wouldn't be surprised if the Viltrox isn't far behind in...

For stills shooters, I suspect it’s all going to be about auto focus. Or at least I hope so.

Yep, it's the equivalent of full green auto mode on other cameras rather than just exposure controls. There are many debates about whether this is a good or a bad thing to use when people are just getting started but my own opinion is that it's nice to be able to pick up a camera and just use...

Well it would put me off personally but I think will be fine for my daughter to learn on. One bonus of the x-t xx cameras is that they have a proper full auto mode. I think that might useful for her to get up and running.

Might well be what I do. I’ve been keeping an eye out for stuff but not in a rush. I id see that E-infinity have the x-t30iii with 13-33 lens for £770. Not exactly cheap but more appealing than spending £400+ on a ten year old camera + however much on a lens.

Yeah, not great that. BTW: I think this would be a great little set up. "Fuji X-T5 Fuji 10-24mm WR Fuji 35mm f1.4 Total 1132g" Maybe the 33mm instead if focus speed is critical though I hear it lost some of the character of the 35mm.
