Looking to update my lens, Canon 400D, just have the 17-85mm f4-5.6 at the moment. I'd like something more suitable for indoor shots (kids, mainly), and I'd also like a long zoom lens for sports/nature shots. I realise this will need to be two lenses! What would you recommend? Keen amateur...

I have a Canon 400D and 17-85 lens, finding it difficult to take good shots indoors in poor light with this - flash makes it look unnatural. I'm no expert, but think I need something to let more light in? Generally taking photos of a toddler so needs to be fast. Was thinking of the 50mm f1.8...
