At the viewpoint from which the photograph was taken both Robinson and Hindscarth, although higher, would be obscured by Catbells and Maiden Moor. The one on the right is Crag Hill, that cliff face is unmistakable. You can check it out on Google Earth.

I went to Tarn Hows last Friday hoping for some Autumnal Colours, but unfortunately the last bout of high wind blew the leaves away.

Stuart is correct, the Thackthwaite route is longer by one tenth of a mile, but is gentler, as it uses the old coffin route. The ascent is approx. 1103ft (to the Southern Cairn). Depending where you park, the route via Darling Fell is slightly shorter, but involves another 150ft approx. of...

There is only limited road side parking at Thackthwaite. You might want to use Google Earth Street View to check it out. Having said that, it is the best place to start the climb.

It's a shame they're not English bluebells.

From Tarn Hows you can get good views from Tom Heights and Black Crag.
