    Renting out your gear?

I hope this doesn't sound argumentative, but why? House insurance wouldn't have anything to do with renting out gear? All my photography insurance is covered by separate business insurance, PLI, indemnity and large equipment coverage, however, my business insurance would not cover me for...

    Renting out your gear?

Yeah that would be a pain, I don't think I'll do it having thought it through, I'll juts sit and admire them instead while sitting in boring Teams meetings :ROFLMAO:

    Renting out your gear?

It will probably be too much hassle for me, but was interested to hear the thoughts of anyone who's actually done it in the past.

    Renting out your gear?

Maybe a better phrase would have been semi-passive. :) As I agree there is a little effort needed.

    Renting out your gear?

I believe with Hygglo they take 20% commission which includes your equipment covered under their insurance. Yes, I agree you'd need to take time out to meet with the people who are renting your kit to hand over / collect.

    Renting out your gear?

Does anyone rent out gear they don't use a lot, on platforms such as Hygglo (formerly Fat Llama)? Or know of any other good platforms. I'm so busy in my day job at the moment that I'm not really finding time to use any of my camera equipment, and when I'm sitting in my home office every day...

Honestly, I don't care too much :) I just thought I'd ask Claude to see what its response would be. As consumers we have plenty of choice where we buy our equipment, which is good and we can all make our own informed decisions.

Claude seems to disagree: No. The importer is Cotswold Cameras. Under UK customs law, the importer of record is the entity that brings the goods into the UK and clears them through customs. That's the company shipping them from Hong Kong to the UK. By the time the camera reaches you, it's...

So we've established some people like using 'grey' and some don't. We're all free to choose how we purchase the kit we need. :)

Ah sorry I assumed you were on Windows :ROFLMAO: I could have helped straight away with Mac as that's what I use. Glad you sorted it. :)

I'm not connected to them in anyway and didn't think I was being overly defensive of them. I was just trying to get across what my personal experience of buying gear from them was like, my first purchase from them was for £10K and I emailed them to try and satisfy my hesitation. Since then I've...

The guy at Cotswold Cameras doesn't see, nor touch, the box before it's sent to you. He's the middle man.

Yes, it is perfectly normal for a brand-new camera to have a small shutter count. Manufacturers routinely test cameras at the factory for quality control (QC) purposes, which involves firing the shutter several times before the camera is ever packaged. [1, 2, 3] What is Normal? A truly "new"...

See now you're suggesting intent. I think you and I both know this wasn't deliberate.
