    DSLR Newbie advice

The D3200 is a good beginners camera but I would worry about you growing out of it quite quickly. Your aspirations as described are commendable and seem to be those of a D90/D7000/D7100 or EOS 60D or 7D type of person. I know it is easy for me to say buy something more expensive but I think...

    Nikon D7xxx owners thread

Hi architectfadi, Clifton Cameras. I pre-ordered online but their communication (telephone) has been excellent. I'm in Hampshire but by chance I have some business to attend to near them on Saturday so I decided to collect.

    Nikon D7xxx owners thread

My dealer called me today to say they can post my new D7100 or I can collect tomorrow (Friday 15th). I have opted to collect this Saturday.

    Canon 5d mkiii

This thread has prompted some interest. I have never seen any comments on here about canonworld.co.uk whose prices are very low on some products. They say all their stock is UK and they never deal with any foreign suppliers. Is this true or am I missing something?

    Through the wind

Not an easy shot (I couldn't do it) but the telephone wires are distracting. I'm sure you will tell me they followed the road for miles - its tough. Otherwise I really like it.

    East Creek in HDR

I'm not a fan of these techniques either and I can understand the comments about white balance, bland colours etc. However, for what it is worth, I think if you are going to do it, overdosing is no bad thing and incandescent WB and an almost monochrome scene is a good starting point to make a...

    Hällingsjö

I really like these. I don't like over-processing and I don't think you have here. They all look very natural. It looks so still - I'm sure it was judging by the water. The test for me though is that I feel as though I am there and I can feel the cold.

Just come down from the Isle of Skye

I really like these pictures. Being marooned at the wrong end of the country I rarely get to see the Highlands and particularly Skye at this time of year so familiar scenes appear nice and fresh. What I really like though is the time you took to get the right shot, from the right spot in the...

Advice on bringing camera in from the cold

Great question ( and I can see why you leave the camera in the car). I am a drying contractor - I dry buildings and their contents and use the science of psychrometrics to help me. As a couple of people have suggested, dampness and condensation (which occurs at dew point) are not purely...

    A very cold Snowdon

You didn't try Crib Goch then?

    Crackpot in flood

Like it. I think the impressive thing is how you kept steady at what must have been an awkward stance. What speed was it? I'm getting better at low speed shots - down to about 1/25th but that's using something like a wall or table to steady myself.

    Red squirrel

Not the easiest of subjects for composition, focusing and exposure. I certainly couldn't have done it.

    More Waxwings

Not easy shots against such a bright sky at this time of year. Worth studying the branches as much as the birds and they are spot on. Well done.

    Elgol Sunrise - Skye

Michael, I don't know if you realise that the Colin Prior Calendar picture for this month is taken from a position close(ish) to yours. I think yours is better, and that's saying something as Colin has a reputation for staking out shots for days and walking the extra mile for the perfect...
