Gear snobbery from regular professionals (vs big names)

From my experience it's a mixture, some manufacturers like to work with the guys with huge followings and not so great photography, others like to work with those who are producing amazing results with their gear. Most just fall somewhere between that and like to work with both

Gear snobbery from regular professionals (vs big names)

No camera with a mirror offers true silent shutter it's impossible and actually shooting travel and street work all those features have now become key to the way I work. Can I work without them? Yes. Is my life much easier with them? 100%. Some people do like bigger cameras that fine, I never...

Gear snobbery from regular professionals (vs big names)

I'm far from a big name in any way but I have been working with Panasonic for the last few months using the GX7 and GH4. There is the fact that I've been loaned gear/paid to do workshops etc which helps with liking the gear but for me it is the rate that the smaller manufacturers...

    Travel Lenses

If I'm travelling to shoot new work for my portfolio/project then I'll carry a wide range of M4/3 lenses. If the trip is non-photography (it's a rarity) I'll just carry the GX7 and 15mm f1.7

Manfrotto & Lastolite - one & the same?

Manfrotto have recently started many of the kata and lastolite products and so much of their new lighting gear and bags will look very familiar

    Panasonic LX100

It goes up pretty linearly from my play at Photokina so if I remember correctly, I'm guessing f2.0-2.4

    Panasonic LX100

It seems the price of the LX100 is starting to look more competitive from when figures of £800-900 were being banded around, I just saw on twitter than WEX has got it for £699 which is a pretty good deal considering the 12-35mm f2.8 lens alone cost more than that...

    Panasonic LX100

I agree but having used the GH4 which basically has the same AF I can confirm the DFD focussing will well and truly blow the LX7 of out the water Realistically compact cameras aren't designed for shooting sports but it can be done. I know two photographers Hugh Hastings and Ian Cook who have...

    Panasonic LX100

I can tell you that the LX100 AF is light years ahead of the LX7 so I'd suggest trying one

    Panasonic LX100

My short time with the LX100 showed the AF to be really quick under dim artificial lighting on the Panny stand at Photokina. I'm hoping to potentially get a play with one soon so I'll be able to give a more accurate opinion then but first impressions are good.

    Panasonic LX100

The DFD focussing isn't like conventional contrast focussing from my experience of using the GH4. Here is some more info on the techy side of things: http://www.imaging-resource.com/PRODS/panasonic-gh4/panasonic-gh4TECH.HTM

    Lightweight travel tripod

If you have the budget the GT1542T is amazing but it's costly, some of the cheaper brands like Sirui have borrowed lots of features from the Gitzo so may be worth looking at. The Manfrotto BeFree is also a great tripod although it's max weight doesn't quite live up to the fancier carbon Gitzo...

    Panasonic LX100

Have you played with the GH4? I think the LX100 has the Panasonic DFD focus system from the GH4, by far the fastest focus system I have used

    Panasonic LX100

It's much smaller than a DSLR, from my brief play at Photokina it seems to be between the RX100 and GX7 in size.

    Holy Saturday Vigil, Czech Republic

Thanks Gramps :-) unfortunately it was the 35mm f1.8G I was using not the f2 which is a good lens itself
