This very same question gets a lot of airtime on photography facebook groups, too. I often find that it's not the camera that people are afraid of, it's the situation that they're in and the thoughts they have about it - they think that they have to force smiles, awkwardly pose, and fake it all...

I agree with this, too - on a later edit, I removed the bright strip! I also see the high contrast light in the centre (it's a bounced reflection from the OFC flash at the rear), but I sort of like the effect it's made, but I suppose I could try and remove it in post to see how it looks. Great...

Yes you're bang on about the processing - I loved the image straight out of camera, but as it's part of a wedding set, it needs to flow nicely with my usual style :-)
