Thought I'd start taking a few photos of aircraft by starting with the slow ones. This I think is probably the best shot I got. Any tips gratefully received.

Has there been much processing done to this photo?. Also what is the semi circular 'thing' on rear fuselage, left hand side of frame about 2/3rds up. Sorry now I've seen it my eyes are drawn to it everytime I look at the picture. However, still really like this, very evocative.

Lovely sharp images. No3 is the best shot in my opinion, though really cannot say why that angle works so well.

Thanks Jamie, am new to this but am gonna read through the manual again and look at some of the tutorials ref: exposure and metering. Hopefully if get another chance to see this bird again I'll get some better pictures.

By the way,Ian, your pictures are great. Gonna use them as my benchmark and hopefully get somewhere near as good in the future.

Thanks for the advice,guys. Guess I'm gonna have to do a bit more research into metering for the correct exposure. All the shots were taken with a Nikon D60 and tamron af 70-300mm lens and I was between 50 and 200metres away from the bird. Think I was at the limit of the lenses capability for...

First post from a complete newby to this photography lark, so any crit most welcome. Spent an hour or so wandering around a local harbour on quite a dull day weather wise but thought these were best of a bad bunch. Still trying to get my head around composition,light and camera settings...
