The drives are probably formated as NTFS and you need some software on the Mac to allow it to read this. I have used https://www.paragon-software.com/home/ntfs-mac/#buy in the past, there are also free software packages that allow Macs to read NTFS but I have not used any of them.

They should work together without issue, putting the drive in takes about 10secs and will be much quicker than a regular external USB SSD.

Depends how fast you want, I get 600-800 mb/s with external Samsung T5 and T7s and similar with a Crucial X9. I get ~3000mb/s with OWC 1m2 external housing using thunderbolt 4 and WD Black NVME drives on a MacStudio and MacBook Pro.

As Peter states using XQD allows the camera to write to the card faster, so it clears the buffer faster and maintains a higher frame rate for longer. If you use XQD with a slow SD card in the 2nd slot some this speed is lost.

I used Lexar XQD cards in my D500 for years with no issues. I only ever used XQD cards, never put a card in the SD slot.

I have a Backlight 26L and 36L, I think the list of items you want to carry would be fine in the 26L, the 36L is a really big bag.
