Beginner DSLR & Lens advice for Travel (1st Post)

I went to South Africa a few years back (which isn't particularly humid) but the one day I really wanted to get some shots while in a big cat Sanctuary, my Canon 600D and lens weren't weather sealed. They fogged up so badly, they were unusable. Luckily I had a small Point and Shoot Waterproof...

    Rolling shots - Any advice/tips/tricks?

I did a few in France recently when I was there for the D-Day anniversary. Literally wound the rear window down (in a LR Discovery - so I was quite high up) flipped out the screen so I could just about compose a shot and just kept shooting. Turned these B&W as they suited the subject matter...

Talk me out of a Canon 80-200 F/2.8L

Interesting, but I was after something with range. Do I save up some more and get something like the Tamron SP 70-200mm f/2.8 Di VC USD

"I am not a wedding photographer"

I take the points. We briefed our wedding photographer to do just that, walk about, behind the scenes get more 'reportagey' stuff. But I'd still argue that the limited shots I saw of this work went way-way further than that. Just when normal people say 'reportage' they probably mean 'not posed'...

Talk me out of a Canon 80-200 F/2.8L

Been looking for a zoom that will be more useful in low light - like at concerts as the lights dims. I know the old 'drainpipe' is very old now, but reviews seem to suggest that, optically, it still holds up against lenses produced today. But no IS. And a lot of them of ebay seem to have...

"I am not a wedding photographer"

Well, if it's been discussed to death previously, then I don't want to resurrect an old thread, but being in the creative industry myself (though not as a photographer) there is no doubt that when you're paid to do something then you have to compromise on your creativity at some point - or walk...

    Bit of luck

I was working in the garden a couple of weekends ago when my wife texted to say it might be worth grabbing my camera as she'd just read that a Lancaster was doing a fly past at the little airfield near us. So I did, and it did. Pretty much flew down our street. Taken from my front lawn...

    New PC or upgrade current?

Thanks for the comments. Most of it went right over my head i’m afraid. I downloaded Speccy to get more of an idea of how much I can upgrade. I suspect the motherboard is bog standard. It says Lenovo Sharkbay ((Socket 0) But I don’t know how i’m aupposed to tell how much RAM it will support...

    New PC or upgrade current?

In terms of upgrading RAM. According to Speccy, There appear to be four slots and only two are being used. Do I need to buy two more 4GB or remove the two 4GB ones and replace those with 2x8GB?

    New PC or upgrade current?

Hi all, First off, I'm happy to admit I know less than zero about PCs, but I'm after some advice about speeding mine up. Like most people, it's probably full of stuff I don't need, but it's slowing down massively of late and is pretty much full now too. Editing photos is painful as I press...

    Lens upgrade considerations

Opps, sorry, meant the 30mm EF-s. It does distort, but the profile exists in Lightroom, so it's one click to correct it. Agreed.

    Lens upgrade considerations

Forgive the ramblings, but hopefully this will make a coherent bit of reading at the end. This is all based on personal experience (and I'm not a pro). If she's thinking of upgrading to a FF body in the future (no matter how far off), then most (but not all) lens purchases should be EF...

I'm going to assume that's Spring/Summer 2019, but do you think it's deliberate?

Hiking shoes - whose to buy?

Forgot to mention that I also bought a pair of Asics Gel Sonama 3 GTX trail shoes. If you're not worried about ankle support, they're ideal. Goretex lined, so waterproof, but still lightweight and perfect approach shoes. Very comfy too. Though, I had to go up from my normal size. Think the...
