South-East England Oxford - City Centre

So many great memories of the Turf, eyes are glazing over just thinking about that place, wonderful in winter, atmosphere was amazing.

    London Bridge

Over many many years of talking evening and and night images in London only once have I had to 'move on' when taking pictures along the Thames in London, this was across the river on the walkway between the Tower Hotel and St Katherine's Dock when I was told to clear off by an over officious...

    Nikon Z* mirrorless

Your last sentence is interesting, not many insurance companies focus on getting the customer up and running, most focus on their profits and how not to pay out. Glad that it has been sorted so quickly.

    Nikon Z* mirrorless

Just thinking aloud, did Hiscox actually go to Nikon or just decide themselves via their in-house tech team that the camera wasn't repairable? I had an issue with a new to me D5 at the start of this year, the store was happy to repair under warranty but Nikon stated that as it was a 'Pro' camera...

Beware if sending your camera to Nikon for repair.

Bought a mint D5 at a very competitive price from LCE back in January, the viewfinder display failed with a couple of weeks so back to LCE it went under guarantee, they in turn had to send the camera to Nikon as the replacement parts could only be installed by Nikon. The whole repair saga took...

Wide open or stopped down to f2.8

In picture 1 there is a door handle on the models's right our left as viewing the image, this irritates the hell out of me, the lights I don't mind as they are not intrusive. Of the two pictures I prefer image two, you have moved slightly left which has removed the offending handle from the...

Canon 40D or 50D as first DSLR

Either camera will serve you well, at the time of these cameras digital imaging was still very much in its infancy as can be seen in the spec sheet, but once you understand their limitations and work within those limitations great images can be obtained. I used a 40D for many years with either...

    Nikon Z* mirrorless

Sorry I should perhaps have been a bit clearer. I would pick the ZF over the Z8 simply because it gives me a lot of what I want but at a vastly reduced price, for what I want the Z8 is way too expensive at £4k, the ZF ticks a lot of the boxes that I am looking for in my next camera, the Z8 or Z9...

    Nikon Z* mirrorless

ZF ordered, there is so much to like in this camera that I just couldn't resist. The key points for me are the improved VR, flippy screen which is just so useful when doing low angle shots in portrait orientation, improved AF over my Z7 and lastly the price which is a real bargain compared to...

The GAS confessional - all who suffer are welcome. :)

Love Mirrorless and my Nikon Z7 but being brought up with the sound of mirror slap on SLR's and DSLR's I have had a hankering to go back to owning a DSLR. First up was a D810 is good condition and then a week ago a D5 with less than 1500 shots appeared on LCE at an incredibly good price, two...

    Why hasn't mirroless taken over?

I tried mirrorless with the Fuji XPro1 plus 18, 35 and 60mm lenses back in 2012, I have to say that it was an impressive system, sure focusing was a bit slow but as I didn’t take fast moving objects that wasn’t really an issue. Moving forward to 2022 and I don’t have my DSLR any more, I now...

    Medium format beginner's question

Going to find out just how steady I am with my Bronica SQAi, 80mm, speedgrip and metering prism as this was the kit I used yesterday in and around Trevells Porth everything was hand held, Provia 100 in the camera, still it was nice and sunny so shutter speeds were all 1/125 or above. That...

Free Going out on your own at night - anyone have any advice?

You’re not a lemon, I spent many a night wandering London taking pictures, some street stuff and some long exposure light trails and the like, never bothered by anything at all. Now I live in the beautiful south west and I only shoot sunsets as I cannot get my head around arriving somewhere I...

    Bronica Medium Format Owners Thread

I agree the rock is a bit of a distraction, in my defence I had dragged the wife along, it was bitterly cold and she was moaning constantly about the cold and wanting to go home, I however was keen to grab a shot with the new lens so it was a bit rushed. I will try harder next time.

Thanks for the feedback much appreciated. You made me doubt what I had posted about the Portra/ Ektar colour shot so I double checked as I did have a roll of Portra but the negatives are definitely stamped Ektar and the Portra is still in my bag waiting to be used.
