New Photo-Location Guidebook: The Peak District

I've recently bought this and I've got to say it sets new standards for the genre. There are photographic guide books and then there's this one. Toally blown away with the locations and the descriptions. The photography within the book is of a high standard, unusual for a guide book most of...

    Remote flash

I can only comment on Nikon iTTL as I've never used a Sony but when you use Nikon's TTL it works differently to the camera metering. the camera can meter across the while scene whereas the TTL meters the centre of the scene and sorts the flash out to expose that correctly. Someone posted a link...

Packing photographs for posting - Inkjet printed.

I'm fairly sure that pigment inks are more than water proof enough to travel through the postal system....I can't comment on Epson Premium paper as I've never used that specific brand or type but certainly on Permajet Oyster which I use a lot or Canson Baryta Photographique I've never had issues...

    Nikon flashes for portraits?

Have you got the camera in manual? Daft question but the first time I used studio lights I'd left the camera in apeture priority....doh!! Have a read of the strobist website, run by a chap called David Hobby, absolute gold mine of off camera flash information. I tend to use my flash in manual...

Eye Photography With Ring Light? Help

A lot of people get hung up on using the exact same settings as they see in another photo, but unless the light is the same then the settings may not produce the same look. Are you sure it's a ring light? In my experience the catch light from a ring light is a perfect circle whereas that looks...

    Strip Box recommendation

I've had one of the Bessel 120cm speedbox octas and as well as being ridiculously easy to put up it seems to be quite decent quality so come the Photography Show I'll be looking for a cheeky deal on a couple of their strips. Whilst there are bucket loads of cheap softboxes kicking around Amazon...

Bargain Used Nikon D700 from Wex starting from £387

I've had a D700 for years and never had any issues with fogging. Cracking camera that I'll be sad to part with when the Nikon marketing dept eventually break my will and make me buy a new body.

    Softbox, lights and backdrop advice

When you're travelling to other peoples houses you generally don't want to be carting too much kit in and out of the car. I've got a couple of the manfrotto nano light stands which are just right for a speedlight and umbrella, doesnt weigh too much and doesn't have a massive footprint. And in...

    Softbox, lights and backdrop advice

Hi, I used to shoot babies for a franchise a few years ago, and it was almost always at the clients home. I shoot Nikon so I used one SB800 triggered by Nikon CLS with a shoot through umbrella. Background wise I had a large furry rug that I'd drape on the sofa and put the subject on that. Sounds...

    Alternative to canvas

Loxley do a print wrap, a cross between a canvas print and a traditional print. That photo would look absolutely stunning on a high gloss/metallic one and you'd have a fairly unique product as I haven't seen anything similar on the High Street.

    Speedlight for Nikon DX

You can hear it zooming either when it's on the camera or if you use the buttons on the back. As well as using various triggers the SB800 has an optical slave built in, so if you can manually dial your onboard flash right down you can use it to trigger the 800. Works well indoors and is...

Printing black and white with a consumer Canon printer...

The trouble with A4 printers is that they are generally aimed at a different market to photographers and printing photo quality off your iphone is somewhat different to a DSLR!! I had a HP printer for years that did photo printing but after 12-18 months the prints have faded and you can't get...

Printing black and white with a consumer Canon printer...

It seems a bit quirky that you're paying a small fortune for nice paper then throwing it through a poor printer. You're better off biting the bullet and investing in a decent pigment ink printer if you want to print at a decent enough quality to display, even if the display is 'only' for...

    Photography courses (basicunderstanding) walsall

You're better off finding your local photography club, all the decent ones will run that sort of thing quite often and you'll not ony save yourself a small fortune but find like minded people who you can learn from. I think there's a really decent one in Smethwick.

    Glencoe

Not quite sure where the skyfall shot is but a bit further down the A82 you have Rannoch Moor and where the road goes past a small loch there's a couple of places you can park up and get a good shot of the loch with the mountains to the rear. Another iconic shot of the Rannoch Moor/Glencoe area...
