I have a 500GB and yea it is a bit on the small side and filling up with the few games I have. If the 1TB isn't much more I'd go for that. That works but you have to make sure it's USB 3 or the loading times will be slower than the stock 5400rpm HDD.

Well yeah but if it's single player and not made by Ubisoft 99% of the time you can play offline fine. Obviously you can't play multiplayer games offline.

If it's that old and you feel up to it replace the thermal paste on the GPU die itself. There are plenty of guides on youtube from Jayz and others which should help lower temperatures aswell.
