    Clothing Photography

Theres no easy or cheap way of doing this without making the clothes look tatty. Your single best bet is to find a local photographer who is kind enough to do this for you in the manner you require (unlikely but worth a shot). Or to find one plus a wannabe model or two to do it for the purposes...

Backdrops - what are the pro's and con's..

In my experience of doing fashion shoots muslin is an absolute nightmare, it needs to be permanently hung, but still looks terrible. The best i've found was Lastolite paper from Warehouse Express around £40, I'm exploring trying to find a wider range of colours including subtle pastel colours...

    Finding a location

Google Earth ;) It has found me several locations including the Fairy Glen ancient woods in outside Ormskirk!

    Help with gig shots

I use a canon one, but something like this would suit you fine: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Version-Remote-SB-900-SB-800-SB-600/dp/B002H4WQBS

    Help with gig shots

Speak with the band see what they like, they may like Black and White? Try duplicating a layer and making it black and white, then raise the contrast a little, and make that layer "Overlay", adjust the opacity then to your preferences. This creates a nice edgy contrast bands might like. I...

    Aperture or Lightroom?

Try Capture One too, I never liked it personally but it's industry standard for upper tier fashion pros. Personally I use Bridge/Photoshop CS4/5 and OnOne Phototools Pro. Used Aperture for a while but got peed off with it hogging (I use an 8-core Mac) resources, Lightroom is niftier, but again...

    Canon 17-40 F4 L or Tamron 17-50 F2.8 VC?

Yes but wide open the Tamron has shoddy corner sharpness and slightly more CA. If your buying this lens for Landscape or Architecture as most do, then you may never see the f/2.8 end of it. I rarely see below 4.5 on my 17-35 f/2.8L.

    Canon 17-40 F4 L or Tamron 17-50 F2.8 VC?

The 17-40L is a no brainer, the Tamron doesn't even come close. Getting a half decent quality lens from Tamron too is a gamble.

    Dropped 70-200mm f/2.8L in a stream...

Yea I have the engineers PDF, but the main (top right) front eye is damaged with water spots in and out, so need a 2nd hand damaged one to replace this.

    5D MkII third party batteries

I've been using 3rd Party batteries since getting my 5D MKII last year, I refuse to pay the £70 for an official battery when I can get 8 3rd party ones for the same price. They function identically, apart from time remaining. The battery logo will flash when it's near flat, having a spare or...

    MKII lenses

I'd sell the lenses, go 5D MKII buy an EF 24-104 f/4.0L a Canon 16-35mm, keep the sigma 70-200mm. The difference will be shocking.

    Dropped 70-200mm f/2.8L in a stream...

It's laying in parts now, completely dried out. Been hunting a replacement via eBay both fully working and a damaged that may someday help in restoring the wannabe submarine. Anyone selling a broken one, and also a fully working one? :o)

    Dropped 70-200mm f/2.8L in a stream...

Ok I've had it sent back from Lehmanns - They have not opened it, dried it, so they would be unable to test it. These guys basically looked at it, printed off a piece of paper "returned water damage uneconomical to repair'. I've been told that this is insane, that by not even drying the...
