    My advise keep things as simple as possible and practice, picking up the target, tracking it and focusing when ready don't rush the most important bit

    Nice image, good angled pose with damselfly in bill and good eye contact, nice coloured background ... It works well ... Nit picking ... Clone the two ticks behind the eye and marks further back .. Lasso and tone down white neck collar .. And take the noise out the background .. All small...

    Just a bit to bright ... In PS if you use that is .... Levels output slider drag the 255 to 245/240 give that a try ..

    In PS > Levels > ..... Input is 0 .. 1.00 .. 255 the middle slider 1.00 to 1.15/1.20 that will lighten it up

    What you see on a tiny LCD screen will nearly always look good ... cos its so small It has a trillion pixel over 3" screen ... So the image you've taken is displayed on the LCD screen at the Jpeg settings of the camera i.e:.... Sharpness ~3 ... Contrast ~2 etc and also the picture style ...

    Wing position and water droplets in #2 is nice, just a shame the head angle isn't towards you ... #3 Nice eye contact, not such a nice wing spread as #2 .. Was there a reason for the crop on #3, like close to top of the frame or you crop a distraction out .. Mick ..

    Forget about front focusing, charts, rulers and micro adjustments ... Cropping that much into a under-exposed image is the issue ... Your first image Keith, where you haven't cropped so hard doesn't look to bad, its exposed well, hold good detail ... cos you ain't cropped it to death .. and...
