Beginner How to start reading photos to make good critiques?

Street photography doesn't actually have to be on a street.

Beginner How to start reading photos to make good critiques?

I agree with this. Some may not like the Mona Lisa, but it's objectively a good painting. There are many photos that some people think are wonderful but the photos might have been badly composed, or have poor lighting, or have uninspired, uninteresting subject matter, or shot from too far away...

Street Photography Series Explores the Urge to Take Photos of Strangers

No that's absolutely fine it does nothing for you. Most of my photos on my Flickr page aren't urban portraits, several that are juxtapositions and some that I think invoke a story. Just so you know, this picture is completely candid and I was stood about 1 and a half metres in front of her using...

No, I'd love to hear it. Give it your best shot. How about this one to start with? Angel by Merlin 5, on Flickr

Street Photography Series Explores the Urge to Take Photos of Strangers

Cartier-Bresson didn't use flash. I think you must mean Bruce Gilden who was notorious for in the face flash. Cartier-Bresson got close to subjects without intruding and if he did intrude he would have no doubt given a big smile and a compliment. Some intrusion is part of the territory of street...

Street Photography Series Explores the Urge to Take Photos of Strangers

Whilst this was a more acceptable way for you to take a photo in keeping with your moral standards, the downside is that snapping from the top of a bus with a long focal length unfortunately resulted in a picture not worth taking. Telephoto lenses rarely work well in street photography. What did...

The Amazing Sony A1/A7/A9/APS-C & Anything else welcome Mega Thread!

Hello guys, long time since I've been here. Hope everyone is well. :) I got asked for permission to use one of my photos in a gallery on a gear site about the Sigma 18-50mm. I used to use it all the time with my Sony a6600 a while ago. Mine is the sixth pic down in black and white...

    Hand Warmers

Yeah, I checked out the Zippo on youtube and it puts out the most heat, about 142f, but as you say, a bit big and needs regular filling. The Ocoopa puts out 136f which is toasty enough and ergonomically they fit the hands very comfortably. They're very good. I tested outside this evening...

    Hand Warmers

I received these hand warmers today. Should make photography a lot more comfortable on these very cold days. :) I'll mostly keep them in my pockets but I'll see if I can fit them inside my glove liners. I can just about operate camera buttons with the liners but not with gloves. They have...

    Tips Of The Day

I love black and white photos, I create some myself but I mostly do colour. It's not black and white I have any problem with. It's the use of editing effects that are unnecessary, (or certainly mostly unnecessary), if the subject matter of a photo is strong enough on its own, and that applies to...

    Tips Of The Day

Roger and Ben, thanks for your excellent responses. (y) Oh Tony Ray Jones is pretty much my favourite street photographer and a huge inspiration for the way I try to create photos these days. Him and Martin Parr and Dougie Wallace. They all tend to incorporate multiple things going on in a...

    Tips Of The Day

These are of course just my own opinions based on street photography I see posted around various websites on the internet. :) Mobile phone pictures. Seriously, I really wish street photographers would stop taking photos of people on their phones. Yes, phones are ubiquitous and it's difficult...
