Does 'up-ressing' an image actually work?

I used to print very large images in my printing / framing business, my advise is to find someone who knows how to print these sizes with the approriate printer and RIP software for the printer they will be using, you will get a better print letting the RIP sort out the up sizing for the printer...

Which lens / focal length surprised you?

I always used 24-70 as my walk around, but when I switched to Leica I decided i only wanted one lens and checked for my most used focal length with the 24-70 on my images and I was around 30-40, so decided to buy the 35mm F/2 Summicron APO ASPH and wow the best coice i ever made, just love it.

    Official Talk Leica thread

Thanks for your advise (y) I spent a bit of time with the 50 SL Summilux & 35 SL Summicron, and decided on the 35 SL cron, the images are so seductive and have a beautiful look to them, being wider and only having one lens makes sense, plus its a little lighter, the images from the 50 SL Lux...

    HP Z3100/3200 Carriage Belt replacement

The HP belt is a lot better than the 3rd party ones I have seen, my Z3200 was used in my printing and framing shop, it litterly did tens of thousands of prints I had it around 8 years I think, only wore 1 belt out and my printing was all done on 44" if possible so the belt had some hammer, only...

    HP Z3100/3200 Carriage Belt replacement

Simon, I did one one on my Z3200 44" it looks complex but its easy to do, it just needs doing carefully, the hardist part is getting the front bottom of the printer to come off, the clips are a real pain to undo, just follow the instructions and all will be ok. I will find the instructions i...

Photos in frames - does anyone go without the glass cover when displaying photos in frames?

Anti Reflective glass does not need to be in contact with the image for best results, the glass is coated both sides so it will control refections from both sides. If you can afford it have it on a framed image its a no brainer... In my shop its about an even split between standard float glass...

Large Picture Frame : 2mm or 3mm Glass?

2mm float glass will be ok, unless its a 'box frame' and only supported on a small 5/6mm strip around the edge, if it has a decent width mount and the frame is made with pinned and glued joints it will be fine, if the frame is narrow, you may have a problem with the frame twisting when picked up...

    Your Magic Bullet Stories...

The best tip i was ever given when I was running Epson printers 4800, 7800 etc to stop nozzle blocking (as they where spectacular at getting blocked nozzles), was buy a USA company that specialised in fixing them. the solution was to put s small plastic container in the printer near the print...

Always read the requirements for any competition, exhibition etc...

Just a cautionary tale for anyone entering prints or framed images into competition or exhibition. A client has had me print and frame 20 images for exhibition at a venue, to his specifications (and at a not insignificant cost) AR glass and museum board. He delivered them to the venue to be...
