The levels command described in that link will work unless you have a subject in the image that you don't want whitened. In that case you can simply apply a white layer on top and use the erasor to delete parts (destructive method) or look into layer masks for a non-destructive method.
Hope...
The only thing I can think of to minimise your workload is to use Canon's software then use a batch tiff to png convertor:
http://www.softpedia.com/get/Multimedia/Graphic/Image-Convertors/TIFF-to-PNG-DLL.shtml
That one is a 30 day trial version so if you can't get all of your work done...
Also :- remember that text typing can be recorded as an action so all you need to do is apply a nice effect (maybe bevel & emboss) to a nice bold font and then change the blending mode of the text layer to "soft light" and you're all set!
Hope this helps.
Off the top-of-my-head :-
Create an action that applies a watermark and then go into "file" (on the menu bar), "automate", "batch" and then specify the name of the folder containing all the files for processing.
here's an excellent photoshop tutorial for creating actions.
may not be what you're looking for but have you tried krystal sleeves?
They could work as part of the process but as you said you need advice on mounting, matt cutting and framing so if anyone out there can help then please reply...
Oh...this site claims to be able to scan your 8bf file for free to make sure it works...can't see any harm in trying it but if your wife explodes then please don't blame/thank me..:)
We have macs at work and I've never installed plug-ins on them but acccording to this site: http://www.fileinfo.net/extension/8bf it should be the same for mac and so if it's not working then it might be a quirk/incompatibility with your mac or a corrupt download...can you get it from a download...
.8bf has been the standard plugin file format for Photoshop for as far back as I can remember. Simply copy the file to your photoshop plugins folder (usually something like c:\program files\Adobe\Photoshop ~whatever version\Plugins).
Hope this helps. :)
The cs3 classroom in a book is the one that I recommend to my students, (you can find it for less than £20 on amazon & probably even less on ebay).
Hope this helps :)
D'oh!!
The only other thing I can suggest (apart from using Photoshop) is to try something like imageconverterplus (do a google search for it) and see if you get better results.
hope this helps.
