I'm not sure if I've damaged the contacts. I don't think I have. It seems to be working okay now. Still, might take it to a service centre to get it checked out, jut in case I have a duff one like Flash said.

Just checked. It is the same one that came with the kit. Oops. Still, the enquiry about build quality still stands.

Um, I'm not sure. It might be the same one, in which case this question is stupid. Apologies. I just don't remember an instance of the original lens not autofocusing with ease, and I don't remember the motor sounding so loud...flimsy. With the original lens I knocked the aperture end...
