I remember Google telling us this last two years ago, that it was a ranking signal. Informed opinion is though that it is a peripheral ranking signal at best, and it is perfectly possible to lose a lot of ranking by making a bodge of the switchover.

I would be amazed if the production cost for one of these was anything above 25 cents US, if that. I tinker a lot making things, and electronic components, even preprogrammed ones, cost nothing in China, a fraction of what you might think.

I'd far rather have a gadget in my kitchen with which I can scan anything that's run out from the packet and add it to some shopping list that all gets delivered at the same time. Individual item ordering seems really extravagant.
