    sony a6000 - recommendations

I guess it is a bit sweeping, but I found it all rather depressing. If you look at this list most of the lenses are well into the bottom half of the scale for Sharpness and overall rating: https://www.dxomark.com/best-lenses-for-sony-a6000-(942)-under-13000-dollars Many of the top lenses are...

    sony a6000 - recommendations

Note that the Sigma 2.8 lenses do not work properly with continuous AF on the A6000. It's not just a question of speed. The new 30mm/1.4 does work. But I have now given up on third party lenses. The A6000 is cheap and can produce nice pictures, but the lack of matched lenses is a problem. I...

    Canon support gone bad

I took my camera and lens in for service with Canon. The replaced the USM assembly and main PCB in the lens. I've always used AI Servo and BBF as that gives me maximum flexibility. One-Shot seems more for people who want to focus-recompose using the shutter release. I do have the camera set...

    Canon support gone bad

Let me quote Canon from a while back: "With regards to the accuracy and functionality of these two functions, there are no consequences using AI Servo for static subjects."

    Canon support gone bad

Do you actually believe that AI Servo will "never lock onto a steady subject", or are you "trolling" me?

    Canon support gone bad

I've had some problems with a Canon lens mis-focussing (see examples here). I asked Canon about the problem (via my "pro rep") and got this absurd reply. WTH!

    Fuji x100/S/T/F Owners Thread

If I stick to just the OVF can I leave the X100T switched on all day and have it wake up instantly when I touch the shutter release, as is normal with an SLR? Without the battery running down relatively quickly like a normal mirrorless camera with an EVF?

    scart connection on new tv's

Bear in mind that SCART can carry a high quality RGB signal (similar to 3 phono component inputs) as well as a crappy composite video signal as used by the single, typically yellow, phono sockets. Using the composite video option means a much worse picture. There is no guarantee that a SCART to...

New compact camera but which one ?

My friend had one of these. Dust got in behind the lens. It cost >£80 to get cleaned by Panasonic. It was back again in a couple of weeks. I treated my Canon S95 carelessly for years, but never had dust get in. I don't know if the S120 is still around, but it could be had very cheaply for a while.

    Canon 1DX Mk II announced

Any thoughts on the mixed card slots? Seems like a pain. I would have prefered two the same. Is there scope for jamming the wrong card in the wrong slot?

    Sony A6300 & lenses announced

I'll be happy if my native E-mount Sigma lenses use all the focus points in continuous AF!

    Sony A6000

Camera menus have a small amount of subjectivity, but it's wrong to say "all camera menus are subjective". People would not spend money on designing user interfaces if this were so. The Sony menus are objectively bad; it's often like having some of the controls for your cooker inside your...

    Sony A6000

Flash exposures are completely unreliable. It sometime massively overexposes when set to auto ISO: it chooses the maximum possible ISO. If you fill the buffer it completely locks for 20 seconds or so. I've also had this happen when I didn't think I had filled the buffer. It doesn't always...

    Sony A6000

The focusing is a big problem in Continuous Autofocus mode AF-C. That's when you are restricted to the centre of the frame. The Sigma 60mm is the sharpest lens on the A6000 according to DXOMark, outperforming the overpriced £600 Zeiss 55mm. The A6000 is a nice sized camera to carry around, with...

    Lens profile in lr5

The Adobe DNG Converter Tool includes lens profiles. RawTherapee finds them automatically and they are comprehensive. But I don't know how you would copy them into Lightroom though.
