    The Great Escape

Thank you all for your comments folks. Lynton is totally wrong with all 3, he should have added a "D" only checks in once a day. Rich has hit the nail on the head. The image was captured using a tank set up. Daveee, (I've had another look at it and the wings look a bit too clean) I can...

    The Great Escape

The minnow has had a lucky escape as the kingfisher "catches" a stone rather than the fish. Not a mistake that Kingfishers make that often.......

    Gone fishing

A few more from my Kingfisher fishing collection. Still havnt got the shot I'm after yet. Coming up proves to be fairly hard to get sharp images, going down is proving VERY hard, even at 8000 of a sec.

    Kingfisher aggression

One from a series taken this morning showing a young female in an aggressive posture warning off 2 other birds that were flying through her territory.

    Kingfisher fishing

Thank you all for your comments. I am fortunate to have access to a private site where "my" side of the stream is only a few inches above water level. I have dug out a small hole a couple of feet back from the edge into which I place my camera. The camera is mounted on a ball head so I...

    Kingfisher fishing

After many months of careful planning and preparation and with the breeding season over, its time to get back to trying to get shots of Kingfishers catching fish. These are my current attempts using ambient light.

    The Imposter

Superb set of images. The white balance looks spot on with my calibrated system, just right for early morning images!!

    Grey Wagtails (another female added)

Top shots, great control of exposure and composition.

    Triptych plus 1

Thought I'd try something different with the Kingfishers.

    Waxwings

Flocks of upto 1000 birds had been reported in my area, the most i saw was around 350.

    Another wheatear (RAW ADDED)

A very good example of the narrow depth of field that we have to work with when using longer focal lengths at close quarters. Its a shame that other members do not fully understand DOF and yet feel qualified to make ( unjustified ) comments. Great capture and technique, well done.

    Kestrel

Image shot in a fairly busy car park with lots of cars, people, kids and dogs. The bird didnt seem to mind at all, allowing me to park right next to it and obtain full frame images.

    Another couple from yesterday.

Lovely images, not too common to get a view from directly underneath. Surprised these shots did not get more comments?? Tony
