Should I risk buying a Manufacturer refurbished Lens from france???

I am concidering buying a Manufacturer refurbished lens frome someone in France (I live in England). Does anyone have any experiance of doing this type of thing? How risky is it? Would appreciate any feedback asap as im watching a bargin on ebay ready to pounce! Thanks guys
