Just curious. Were you creative in another area before discovering photography?

Theses days, painting/drawing and occasionally writing. Did play classical guitar when younger but haven't had time for many years (sad but often the way).

Inexpensive Canon full frame, best value for money?

Depends on what you want to use them for. Used a couple of mk1 's years ago. Later was using a mk2 and now a mark 4 with the 2 as a backup. Images were good. Reason for latest change was being able to shoot 60fps video and remote commanding the camera for elevated work (I shoot property and...

How does exposure compensation affect image quality ?

"Usually" EV is changed by adjustments to shutter speed rather than ISO.

    Why hasn't mirroless taken over?

In my personal case, it does not materially alter the final image so why spend the money on one? Maybe when the camera needs replacing, then again, maybe not. Viewing the image on a screen as opposed to a viewfinder doesn't affect the final image. Changing to a different lens mount does however...

Lighting that mimics the sun light

Un-diffused speed light. Alternatively, a video cob light or a redhead. Only problem you "might" have with something like a torch would be that they don't always put out a very even light source - you sometimes get weird shapes from the bulbs, reflectors or whatever inside them. Try shining one...

Free Going out on your own at night - anyone have any advice?

Had one or two instances of problems over the years. Always in towns and cities. Youths and people who you suspect were intoxicated/on substances. In case you thought it was cities and rough places that have problems, I had a problem with youths in Caernarfon once, and that wasn't on the back...

    Canon 5D 1 vs 5D 2

Not much difference at low ISO. High ISO did show a fair improvement however. Dynamic range also seemed to be a bit better, although whether that was a difference in the files or due to the screen being better on the mk2 not sure.

    Mac Anti-virus?

Sophos. Be careful with some of the others, they can do more harm than good from experience.

Shrewed or Fool ? Canon Black Zoom Lens 24-105mm Used Sold As Seen from e-bay charity shop " Unsure if works"

Potential issues are ribbon cable failure and iris unit failure. Had it happen a couple of times for both. The other issue is if it has been dropped and the internal elements are misaligned. This isn't always immediately apparent from external pictures (the body and externals can look clean)...

    Shoulder bag Advice sought

Have used a Lowpro shoulder bag (not sure which but it is one of the larger ones) for a few years. No concerns about the build (they are tank like), but as someone now in middle age, the advice I would give would be to be careful about carrying that level of weight constantly over one shoulder...

    Home studio

The room is too small. Shooting people with a wide angle lens distorts too much. 50 or 85mm is generally better for something like that, give or take. You also need more space to be able to move the lights around and achieve the necessary degree of separation (camera to subject, subject to...

    Home studio

How large is the room? Depending on what you want to use it for, there may not be enough space to position lights and to gain sufficient distance between your camera and subject.

Anyone using Neewer 660 and similar LED lights?

If you are using it for stills, use flash. For video there is no option. It is fair to say that when I did tests, the COB light I used was brighter (and more unpleasant) than the Neewer ones, and indeed, if you are worried about high ISO, the only way to deal with that would be to go brighter...

Anyone using Neewer 660 and similar LED lights?

Read carefully, because it depends what you are using them for. Recently bought some LED lights in the context of shooting domestic property video. These were my findings: Lightpanels like Neewer 660's. Relatively soft light source with just the supplied slot in diffuser screen - this is...
