    Couple of D300 Questions

Blinkies:- Push the image review button (looks like a play button, back top left). Push down on the D-pad until you see highlights in the bottom left. Spot focusing:- Push the shutter release half way down. Use the dpad to move your focus point. Hope that helps.

Exactly... even with fast glass, you still have to push the ISO.

Well the native lowest ISO on the D300 is 200. The equivalent of ISO100 on the D300 is a simulated mode so I don't really use it. I reckon the D80 at ISO100 just gives such smooth shots that I never seem to achieve with the D300. However, the D300 performs much better than D80 at high ISOs...

The lighting was terrible so had to push to 1600. Grain galore! Do miss using the D80 actually, the results at ISO100 were lush!

Yes, widest aperture you'll probably need to push it to at least 1600 to get a decent shutter speed. It very much depends on the lighting at the venue. Sometimes you can have terrible 'disco' lights that swirl around and other times you can have proper theatrical lighting that has a fair bit...

I'm not familiar with the D40 ISO performance but, your ISO should be set as high as you feel will give you acceptable results. In my opinion, a noisy sharp shot is better than a less noisy blurred shot (unless that is the effect you are going for. Set your exposure manually as in the auto...

    The last photo?

Great story and also is a testimonial to not deleting images that 'aren't commercially viable'. Nice one!

    Which portrait lens for me?

I used the 50mm f1.8 on the D80 for about a year. It's a great lens and gives good sharp results and generally is excellent value for money. The only downsides for me is the fixed focal length can make it difficult to get the composition/frame you need in certain situations (where space is at...

    Alien Skin Bokeh?

I'm not the most prolific user of smilies, but should have used the 'sarcastic' one for that!

Copyright - some people think they're above the law

Sounds like the standard corporate spiel "..we take this very seriously.... blah blah...". Some poor sod is missing out on 10p of revenue too!

    Alien Skin Bokeh?

It does seem like a quick and easy way to add bokeh to your shots.... after you've spent a lot of time carefully masking the foreground object.

Yeah me too! Always seems like "Hey, I'm a pro - see I can make everything but the roses black and white!" But it's not in the same vein really - you'd get similar results from shooting in a completely white room, so I think you can get away with it! Anyways, it's always good to try new...

Nice to see some 'selective desaturation' that actually works! The last shot is so much fun and would make a great poster.

How To Put 'Copyright' Details On The Back Of Pics?

You can get clear Avery stickers and print onto them. Can be quite time consuming to peel and stick, but may help.
