Whenever I've been there's a small car parking area just before the locked gate thru the Camp site (look on google maps). Park there, thru the gate and campsite and on to the daytime parking area. Extra 10 mins max.

I've also found the liquify tool troublesome on my mac recently. It works fine in the preview but simply doesn't make the adjustment on the layer. Oddly, if i save the file first, then use liquify, it works! Even more strange is that I haven't updated to Mojave!

Thanks Chris, I found the wondering about it actually harder than the doing of it. At the end of the day, you needn't show anyone your results, have a go, laugh at yourself if it doesn't work and see how it goes from there!
