The Amazing Sony A7/A9/APS-C & Anything else welcome Mega Thread!

My suggestion would be only if the F Stop bags. I’ve been using them for years but I know they aren’t for everyone. I’m not sure which ICU it would need, probably a large or XL.

The Amazing Sony A7/A9/APS-C & Anything else welcome Mega Thread!

I’ve just got around to properly putting my A9 through it’s paces after getting it in February. So far it’s good. Having previously used fast Nikon primes and zooms it’s taking a bit of getting used to being limited to f5.6 with the 100-400. I’m regularly shooting at iso3200-6400. AF has been...

A few from my recent trips out to photograph deer in a local deer park. Recently Added-223 by -Rob'81- Recently Added-220 by -Rob'81- I’m slowly getting to grips with the A9 and 100-400. The slower f5.6 aperture is taking a bit of getting used to but I’ve been very happy with weight. It’s...

    Wild or captive

There are plenty of deer images taken at deer parks like Bushey and Richmond in the wildlife section. But you’re right deer parks could easily be classed as captive as the deer aren’t exactly ‘wild’.

    Rydal Grot

That looks a nice place. I’m disposed to be up in Ambleside in a few weeks time. I may take a visit to Rydal Hall gardens.

Nice. I always struggle with woodlands.

I took another trip out this evening to see the deer. They are still going. I'm hoping there will be another weekend before it ends. Red Deer Bellowing by Rob Cain, on Flickr The weather has been dull and dreary during this rut (or at least the times I've been able to get out). I'm still...

Lightroom - Unable to detect HDR exposure brackets

The in built electronic level in the camera should be good enough if it’s showing it’s perfectly level in all planes. You shouldn’t need a bubble level. I have a pano clamp that sits between the camera and the tripod head. It means once I have the camera level I’m only turning across the...

Lightroom - Unable to detect HDR exposure brackets

Was your camera perfectly level too? If the camera was pointing slightly downwards/upwards I'd expect that to introduce a curve to the horizon. I don't so many panoramas myself but I have heard a nodal rail is a good idea to use as it gets the lens centred over the tripod pivot point (don't...

    Cyber First ‘Fatima’ photographer unhappy

I’ve just seen this on BBC news: https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-54553828 The photographer who took the Cyber First ‘Fatima’ photo isn’t happy it’s been used in this way. It seems they put it on Unsplashed which has allowed it to be used commerically for free. I’m guessing...

    Get up and fight!

At my local deer park it’s usually the first 2 weeks in October when most of the activity happens. I find the males leave the area they spend most of the year in around the last few days in September. There’s usually a bit of bellowing late September. Once they start rounding up the females...

    Get up and fight!

It’s unusual to see three stags so close together at this time of year. I’d expect to see them to be far apart from each other rather than sitting together. The Fallows are quite aggressive for their size. Last year I watched two fallow fighting with a fence in between them. It was amazing to...

    Get up and fight!

That seems very different to Bedfordshire where there is plenty going on and it will likely peak this week. One thing I’ve noticed this year is the activity amongst the Sika is much higher than I’ve seen it before. They seem to be spoiling for a fight!

    Lens focus help please

Focusing on the eyes does help as even if the nose isn’t in focus having the eyes in focus makes it much more forgiving when viewing. DOF close up with wide apertures can give quite shallow DOF. In the first image you posted the DOF is probably only 1-2cm. One thing to consider is distance to...
