Gannets at Bempton Cliffs mid May?

I’d like to visit the gannets at Bempton cliffs this year. We’ve hired a campervan and our original plan to visit Isle of Skye has fallen through as it’s now too late to book space on campsites mid May (our hiring company has had their new van delayed and work changes have lead to them closing...

    Nikon Z* mirrorless

after the replies from @Unlocker and @Swanseajack and looking at reviews I’ve decided to miss out on hiring a Z 1.4 TC and picked up a used copy from WEX. It was as new condition and the same price as one sold for on here a few months ago. I have a few subjects ideas for spring which could do...

That’s nice. I’m thinking of visiting one of my old water vole haunts but I’m not sure if there any still there ☹️

If you play the odds with a few visits to find them close.,300mm would be fine as I’ve use around that before. These weren’t that far away, I had to keep moving back along the path with it being a fixed 400mm. I’m not used to a prime having not used a long prime for 10 years (and that was a...

It was quite annoying when I moved to canon hoping to get the 400 f4 to then see Nikon bring out this on mirrorless and so much lighter. I couldnt bring myself to spend so much on an older DSLR lens and with canon not really doing any affordable lenses (their 400 f4 is likely to be priced quite...

It’s Woburn. Very hit and miss as you have to stick to the public foot paths and can’t walk anywhere you’d like to. The light weight 400 f4.5 really helps keep weigh down so you can’t walk further to find them.

I’m still trying to get to grips with the 400 f4.5. I’ve been going to my local deer park as the deer there are usually quite good subjects. This fella has quite the facial disfigurement. I’ve never seen a disfigured deer at the park before. With it being a managed deer park they breed the deer...

I’ve managed to get it off by screwing on a second filter to give more grip area and using a combination of rubber gloves and a mouse mat. Thankfully didn’t resort to vices, hacksaws, chisels or pliers :giggle:

honestly I’d rather leave it on there than put the lens in vice! I’ve tried the mouse mat idea, I’ve not tried rubber gloves or elastic band as I don’t have any.

Has anyone ever got a screw on filter stuck on a 100-400 Z lens? I’ve put a Hoya HD protector screw on filter on it and can’t undo it!

Thanks for the examples. I’d be looking at longer subject distances as it would be used for birds in flight. I’d gone with the 400 f4.5 due to its light weight, fast aperture and 400mm focal length suits my needs. I agree I’d not think of using the 2x teleconverter but the 1.4x teleconverter is...

Thanks for the reply. I'd noticed the sharpness tests in the reviews put f5.6 as the sharpest aperture. Performance with the teleconverter at f8 is similar to the lens bare at f4.5. I'm working on the idea if I'm happy with the bare lens at f4.5 I should be happy with the teleconverter at f8. F8...

Does anyone have a 1.4 Z teleconverter and use it on the 400mm f4.5 Z lens? Im considering one as it would be great to have the option to go to 560mm. I'd probably use it at f8 and the reviews seem to point towards a similar performance compared to the lens bare at 400mm f4.5. A 600mm f6.3 would...

    Cobra, Rest in Peace

Like others I've never known TP without the presence of Chris. I've had no interaction with Chris via the mod's way, but he always seemed to be very fair in handling any situation on here. This place won't be the same without him.

I tried the Z7ii at the show and was surprised my little finger hung off the bottom of the camera. The Z8 is a big lump but it just feels nice to hold considering my last Nikon camera was the D810.
