I got my D40 kit (18-55mm) from jessops for £299 and then reclaimed the £30 cashback from nikon. Can't find a D40 for anywhere near£269 anywhere on t'internet. Also because the camera was under £300, Jessops 3 year extended warranty was only £30 Hope this helps

Buy a uv filter to protect your lens, Lenses cost hundreds and you'd be a bit narked off if you scratched/damaged the glass for the sake of the cost of a filter!!

I'm sorry you won't consider Nikon, I have a D40 and have had absolutely no problems at all. The D40 produces excellent quality images and is probably the most user friendley of all the DSLR's (fantastic if your new to DSLR's). It's also the cheapest one out there leaving you more money to...
