Fracster ...Thanks for that i was looking at the mounting bracket to see if there was a suitable place for a strap but there was nothing immediately obvious. Never thought of the tripod mount. I will have a fiddle around and see what i can do.

Having taken delivery of my own (very expensive) 100-400 this morning this picture made me feel quite uncomfortable. This is my first quality lens. What is the best method of carrying something this big securely (other than in its case escorted by armed guards).
