Out and about today. A sunbathing Whitethroat and a couple of duck families My first thought was Gadwall, but there was a female Gadwall nearby, so I know it wasn’t a Gadwall and this one was slightly bigger. It looks almost like a Tufted Duck in colour, but it was far too big. Any ideas? Edit...
I had the same problem with a male Blackcap. He was chasing off everything that came near the feeders and just sat on a branch guarding them for a week or so. I ended up moving the fat balls he was feeding on down to the bottom of the garden and peace was restored to the peanut and seed feeders.
It was a thoroughly miserable morning, cold, damp and still very dark. The light was awful and that’s why the image is so dull. The little group of LTT’s brightened things up though!.
This LTT has a very pale face, much paler than the others in the flock it was with. The others had a distinct dark stripe over their eyes, as expected. Is this just a colour variation?.
