I recently bought a Nikon P900, primarily for bird identification shots, it's fairly bulky and does exactly what I bought it for. Now I want something smaller and lighter to fits in a pocket for when I'm out hiking, I'd value some suggestions to start looking at. My 'must have' features are...

#1 sanderling, white belly medium bill length and that coloured arc in front of the wing all suggest that to me. #2 turnstone #3 shag or cormorant moulting, lots of quills of its head. Usually the shag has a crest on its head and is smaller that a cormorant. It has the mottled wing feathers...

Well impressed. I'm considering P900 for birding, can you comment of the time it takes to lock focus and the general size and feel?

Great composition in the shoveler shot, it really brings out the size and shape of the bill, which IMHO is the major interest

No 1 has it for me. No 2 looks like Mr Robin is about to leave. I like his (or her) more relaxed stance in No 1

is No 5 a shoebill stork, it has that kind of look to it. No 1 looks pretty exotic to me!

No 1 - I really like this capture with the feet out, the bill looks really heavy for a Harris Hawk, but it might be the angle.
