The Amazing Sony A1/A7/A9/APS-C & Anything else welcome Mega Thread!

I didn't know we'd had a price increase this year, I've just spec'd one up going one level up on each aspect over what I have now and the price is bonkers, looks like I could be forced back to windows in the future :( And I've just noticed they want £8k for a laptop and they even have a cheek...

Ahh right, yeah 16GB RAM isn't really enough for LR these days. I know Adobe recommend 16GB but it's not enough when batch processing and other heavy duty tasks, I think 32GB is the new minimum. I've got 64GB which was the most I could get at the time so I've still got plenty of breathing room...

    Measuring Autofocus Speed

That’s interesting, I’ve got to say the mirrorless I’ve used have been streets ahead in all areas of AF for me, such as lock on speed, subject recognition, subject tracking etc. However, I did only shoot Nikon DSLR and I know they had a history of the AF being distracted by backgrounds. I...

Is photography as a hobby dying?

My experience with AI in situations like this has not been the best. I’ve asked it to come up with adjustments to look like a certain processing style I’ve attached to the chat, tried the suggestion and it’s nothing like. When I’ve gone back to AI to say this it’s says something like “sorry I’ve...

    Measuring Autofocus Speed

On top of a plethera of focus modes (tracking, AF-C, AF-S etc etc) and focus areas (single point, wide, centre etc etc) my A1 II has the following subject detection:- Auto People (with face memory and face priority select) Bird/Animal Bird Animal Insect Car/Train Plane You can then choose...

That's odd, I have the M1 Macbook Pro and lightroma nd photoshop are very fast for me, and that's with 50 megapixel files. What RAM do you have?

    Measuring Autofocus Speed

I often think it’s just a perception, with some of the modern mirrorless cameras AF lock on is near instant, I don’t know how much faster it can be than that. Focus speed between near and far subjects can be detected more, however I would hazard a guess this is more down to the lens motors than...

I'd check where warranty repairs are carried out, I know in the UK Panamoz and Cotswolds repair in the UK but e-infinity go back to Hong Kong (last time I checked) but it might be different in your country (y)

Well I’ve been offered gear with much more than £30 off the advertised price, but even £30 would be welcome and better in my pocket than theirs (y)

I’d only buy from Panamoz now. I recently had a bad experience with Cotswolds, and e-infinity warranty repairs aren’t done in the UK (last time I checked). Panamoz usually offer you a lower price than their advertised one if you ask them what their best price is.

This might give you a start to look at what they do in lightroom and then apply similar techniques (download at your own risk ;)). I downloaded some a while back, they gave me a good insight how to do my own but I can't for the life of me find the site anymore :facepalm...

https://helpguide.sony.net/ilc/1450/v1/en/contents/TP0000314498.html Now I would assume that you can get the same effect in lightroom if you know the 'recipe' as I would assume the DRO function in the Sony software can only use the same raw file, however like trying to 100% replicate jpegs it's...

I've still not got around to buying a scanner, and I still can't decide whether to get a proper scanner or get a macro lens and do it that way. My mine reason is to scan all of my old family photos, I don't think I'll do enough new film photography to justify the cost.. I only have a couple of...
