Critique Beginner's shot on the Clyde

Cheers. Without a tripod would a longer shutter have possibly led to a blurred image from camera shake? I was out drinking with my mates the night before so keeping a steady hand may have been tricky. :)

Critique Beginner's shot on the Clyde

Thanks. I was reasonably pleased with the composition for a beginners attempt. Will be good to this as benchmark and go back and take some more shots once I've had more experience. It certainly is a popular spot, there was several other photographers out that night. I did note they all had...

Critique Beginner's shot on the Clyde

Any advice or comments are welcome - its good to get other people's opinions. I was meaning I didn't spot the white triangle when cropping the original image in the Nikon editing software rather than when composing the image.

Thanks for the welcome comments. I wasn't sure about posting given I'm a beginner but nothing ventured, nothing gained as the saying goes. In no.1 what sort of post processing could be done to bring the colours out a bit more? I'm just using the basic Nikon View NX2 editing software. I see...

Critique Beginner's shot on the Clyde

Thanks Stephen. The white triangle is the edge of a canopy on the bridge. I never actually noticed it which was probably down to the size of the image on screen when cropping it. I'll give it another go in the Nikon editing software I have.

Thanks for the feedback Mark. Much appreciated. I was finding the manual a bit of a struggle to read and as you say does not go into the depth I'd like. I was looking through the Tom Ang book in Waterstones the other day and it did look like a good book. The other book I was recommended was...

Folks a complete beginners shot from earlier this evening on the Clydeside. Was only there for a short period and picked out this as the best of a bad bunch! :) Shot using my new Nikon D3200 in automatic mode. All I have is the camera and 18-55mm kit lens. No filters used and don't have a...

    Advice for a novice

Thanks very much for the advice folks. Much appreciated. Tringa - yes, I've got the Nikon photo editing software that came with the camera. I've been playing about with it tonight with some images I took which were just as it was getting dark along the Clydeside in Glasgow. I've had a bit of a...

    Advice for a novice

Hi folks, first post on the forum so just looking for some hints, tips, advice and good reference material/links for a novice/beginner. I received a Nikon D3200 with the 18-55mm kit lens as a gift from my wife. She has also booked me a 1 day introductory course which should help me with the...
