    Nikon Z* mirrorless

The EVF definitely doesn't blur when you are moving the camera about. I can get all 4 fingers round the grip when I hold it, and I've got big hands. Certainly not a toy and absolutely a real camera! Anyway I seem to remember you being quite impressed with it when you saw mine in a field when we...

Anyone moved from Nikon to Sony??

If you enjoy using Nikon then why change. The grass isn't always greener on the other side.

Selling up / Moving to Nikon Z series

No one has mentioned it yet but perhaps the Nikon Z50 kit with the 16-50 and 50-250 will keep you going for sometime. You could always get the FTZ adapter and keep the 200-500 if you felt you would still ever do some longer lens wildlife. I bought the Z6 and associated lenses and don't regret...

    Garage labour charges.

My mechanic in Warwickshire charges me £40 an hour, he isn't VAT registered either. Normally picks the car up and brings it back after he's worked on it too, so cannot argue!

    Anyone else dumped the BBC

An interesting aside is that if you got rid of every BBC staff member paid over £150,000 (in front of camera or not), the BBC would save £25 million a year. But the free TV licenses for the over 75s is costing them £250 million a year. They had to go, it's simply not sustainable in the future...

Storing equipment long term (6 to 12 months)

Are you storing any lenses? One method is to leave the lens cap off in a bright well lit room as the UV in daylight kills off fungus. Also means a dusty lens, but I'd rather be cleaning a dusty front element than having a lens stripped down for mould and fungus.

    which Nikon lens to keep...?

18-70 all the way, extra 15mm longer and 2/3rd of a stop faster at the long end.

    Nikon Z* mirrorless

I almost always work in Camera Standard in LR, with the very odd photo I start with Camera Neutral if I want to choose where to place the contrast. Where is everyone getting their 24-200s from? Doesn't seem to be a lot of stock about.

    Nikon Z* mirrorless

The RRP for kit lenses has always been ridiculous, a good example is the 24-120 f/4 that has an RRP of somewhere in the region of £1k yet everyone is buying white box ones split from kits for around £400. In time it'll be the same for the 16-50 and 25-50.

Updating Firmware on Grey Tamron Lenses - A small heads up

I was under the impression Tamron UK would upgrade firmware on UK lenses for free, and a £50 (I think) charge for non UK/EU sourced lenses. To upgrade my non EU 100-400, I just bought a Tap In console second hand for £49, upgraded the lens firmware and then sold it on eBay for the same as I...

    Nikon 24-120mm f4

I had one for a few years and it never set my world on fire in terms of image quality but it was fine & very flexible. I took that, a D750 and a 50 1.8 to Venice and it lapped up everything I threw at it.

    LPOTY 2020

I think we can all agree photography is subjective, and therefore competitions will be as well. It was ever thus and will continue to be.

    LPOTY 2020

I hadn't mentioned it previously, as I knew deep down it wouldn't go anywhere but I had 6 on the long list and yesterday confirmed that none of them had gone through to the next round! Still, I took great care to enter 20 of my favourite photos so least I know I tried with my best stuff... Not...

What do you think of Instagram ?

The other downside to IG is there is quite the culture of people who buy followers to make themselves look better, you can usually tell as they are the type to have 10,000+ followers but only get 100-200 likes on a photo. You have to be very careful to not believe everything you read on...

What do you think of Instagram ?

It's probably the easiest to get a following on, but can be the most fickle for the same reasons. If you go down the road of posting what suits Instagram best (i.e 5:4 verticals, bright saturated colours, popular locations or types of photography) it's very easy to do well there. The more...
