I'm by no means an expert, but try upping your ISO to give you a faster shutter speed. Jonathan.

Thanks for the feedback Ken. I was shooting in manual and this bird took me completely by surprise as I was shooting static birds just before he flew past, hence the lack of preparation. :) I'm looking forward now to trying more shots 'on the wing'. Jonathan.
