    North West 200

Thanks for the feedback Kevin. Could anyone point me towards a facility in Digital Photo Professional where I could pull the exposure back a little. Not sure if it's even possible with this software? I must invest in Photoshop. :) Jonathan.

    North West 200

Indeed Gary. A sad, sad loss. A young man, taken in his prime. Jonathan.

    North West 200

Another one from the same area. The bikes seemed to be lifting both wheels over a small bump in the road, but I could only ever catch them with the front lifted. :) Anyway, all C&C welcome as usual. Jonathan. DPP_1016 by The Swallow Brae, on Flickr

    North West 200

Thanks for the feedback Jake. I think the high shutter speed was to do with my inexperience. I suppose I should have used a higher f number and slowed the shutter slightly? Maybe using a filter would have helped, because it was very sunny at the time, but I've found that when using a...

    North West 200

Hi guys, I was at the Tuesday practice session for the NW200 and managed to get the shot below. Technically, it may not be very good (it's my first attempt at sports photography), but it's significance from a bike fan's point of view is that the rider - Martin Jessop - had just gone through the...

    Female Kingfisher

Beautiful photo of a gorgeous bird. Can those with experience in photographing the kingfisher give me any tips on finding a good location? I assume it's a case of spending time in an area where you know there are birds, and then watching for their commonly used perches? Any tips...

    Hawk

Hi guys, I'd appreciate any C&C on this shot that I took today. It was at a local game fair and is one of John Carmichael's beautiful birds from the Northern Ireland School of Falconry. I hope I've done it justice. Any tips to improve my technique, as always, are very welcome. Jonathan...

    Bag update

I have a similar amount of kit as the OP and have found a Lowepro 200 Fastpack to suit all my needs. Excellent quality kit for the money. Jonathan.

    I think i'm happy with this 1!!

I'm by no means an expert, but try upping your ISO to give you a faster shutter speed. Jonathan.

    Drake in Flight

Thanks for the feedback Ken. I was shooting in manual and this bird took me completely by surprise as I was shooting static birds just before he flew past, hence the lack of preparation. :) I'm looking forward now to trying more shots 'on the wing'. Jonathan.

    Drake in Flight

This was a shot that I got this morning when I stopped off at Lough Neagh in Antrim. It's my first attempt at panning, so any advice as always, is welcome. Jonathan. IMG_2189drakeflight by The Swallow Brae, on Flickr

I've cropped the picture as advised, it does seem to draw the eye more towards the reflection. :) DPP_1005 by The Swallow Brae, on Flickr Jonathan.

Hi Matt, thanks for taking the time to comment. I'm really glad you mentioned the aspect ratio. Is there a 'standard' (is there such a thing in photography? :) ) ratio that one should use? I've been using 4:3 up until now. I guess it depends on the composition of each individual image. Any input...

I shot this guy last week at a local wildfowl pond. It's been a great find for me, as there's a wealth of different breeds there. Planning on another visit tomorrow to see if I can improve my skills a little (well, a lot, actually :) ). DPP_0001 by The Swallow Brae, on Flickr As usual...

Found it. :) Hopefully this is an improvement. DPP_1003 by The Swallow Brae, on Flickr Jonathan.
