Beginner Aircraft light trails from Birmingham

These were all taken from the A45 - there's a pavement which handily rises up the bank which the road is cut into so you are pretty much level with the runway. Not much parking that I've found, you can try Clock Lane but it's double yellows or it's a ten minute walk from international station...

    Barn Owl on the hunt

I've found the best time for them is early evening the day after heavy rain, particularly if it rained throughout the previous night as this will have affected their hunting ability. During late spring and summer months you will have more luck in daylight (particularly after rain) as they will...

A couple more from a few nights ago, they were taking off and landing in the opposite direction, so it adds different perspective.

    Oh the frustration

Have to say Stu some of those Hare pics are fantastic.

    Oh the frustration

You'll have to be quick to get a decent shot of a perched one, after decades of persecution they seem to have evolved to be jumpy and very shy of humans when perched. Tried it a few times, only way I've been able to get a half decent (emphasis on "half") record shot is to take from the car but...

    Beginner Reflections

A cliché perhaps but quite a pleasant scene in central Lichfield. Unsure which crop I prefer, thanks for looking C&C welcome.

Hi Nod, yes they're star trails. Don't like them as they're distracting but I'm only really uploading the photo to show a different angle. They are visible in the head on shots as they were taken pointing into the countryside away from Birmingham - the other shots were generally against light...

Milky Way Core my first view of the year...

Love numbers 2 and 4. Really looking forward to Milky Way season this year, nice to see some early pics.

Managed to upload the head-on shot which shows the nav lights better.

Beginner Aircraft light trails from Birmingham

I got a couple of head on shots but I'm having difficulty uploading them, I'll try and post them tomorrow but the red and green wing lights showed up much better despite the very bright landing lights. I think it's the shape of the plane and angle of the lights which causes the issue of low...

Go for it! It's surprisingly addictive as they all come in and leave at different angles and create different trails depending on what aircraft type. Heathrow would be perfect as I imagine you get so much variety.

Yeah it was really enjoyable, I'm definitely going to go back and experiment with some more angles, perhaps on a Sunday when there's less road traffic as well.

Thanks, I can't actually remember who/what it was! Could have been Ryanair. What I found interesting is that some planes are better than others for this. I got there in time for the Emirates A380 arrival and was frankly disappointed by the result, I think the sheer size of it and the reflections...

Always been fascinated by light trails, particularly those from aircraft, so went to Birmingham airport on a chilly evening and took some for myself. C&C welcome. 1 Takeoff by Ben M, on Flickr 2 Landing by Ben M, on Flickr 3 sign by Ben M, on Flickr 4 road by Ben M, on Flickr sign by Ben...
