Just buy a used WCL-X100. Same optical as the MK2. Just add your own magnet to get the camera to recognise it. Or use the menu to tell the camera it’s fitted.

On my X100vi I use the lens control ring for digital crop. I get the full cropped image in viewfinder.
Also, unlike previous iterations the vi does not interpolate the file. It merely crops from the 40 meg sensor.
Not sure if you could perhaps push the budget. 35 GM grey might be worth a look. No doubting its credentials.
